What does a Music Editor do?

Music editors add another layer of emotional impact to a film. They create the soundtrack that amplifies the story's theme, mood, and atmosphere. They must understand the psychology and affects that music brings to the drama. On a lower budget film, you may find the jobs of the composer and music editor combined. However, those are two different jobs, so let's take a look at the difference.
The music editor works with the director to decide the style that would resonate with the story that is being told. From there, they conduct a spotting session to mark the points in the film where the music would help impact the storyline.
Music editors then work closely with a composer to achieve a fitting score for the edited scenes. After working with the composer and other musicians, they synchronize the music to the picture by utilizing a music mixing software, such as ProTools, to lay down the tracks.
